Type of financing that lies between traditional debt and equity. It is usually subordinated to classic types of debt capital such as Senior or Subordinated loans, but has priority over equity capital in the event of insolvency. Depending on the accounting method used, mezzanine capital can be allocated to shareholder’s economic equity shown in the balance sheet.
