The objective of a private equity investor is to increase the value of the company over the average holding period of 5 to 8 years by providing financing, network, industry knowledge and a value creation plan. Private equity companies differ in their focus on geographies, sectors, company lifecycles, percentage of equity stakes as well as operational involvements.
